Torben Enevoldsen:
On the Street of Dreams
by Tommy “Hashman” Hash

Taking a new direction in within his musical mindset, Section A guitarist Torben Enevoldsen has created a multifaceted melodic rock/metal record, leaving the whole prog-metal mantra aside to bring forth an offering of arena ready tracks known as Acacia Avenue with an arsenal of multiple vocalists, including Tony Mills (TNT, Shy), Geir Rönning (Radioactive, Prisoner) and Torben Lysholm (Pangea, Mysterell) with drums by fellow Section A man Thomas Heintzelmann and Savage Affair bassist Carsten Neumann providing the low end backbone.

From the full-blown anthem oriented "Don't Call Me Tonight" & "Just Wanna Be With You, to the exposure of the edgy pop sweet tooth on "Can't Make You Stay" & "An Illusion," Acacia Avenue is a record of tuneful splendor in the vein of Toto, Joe Lynn Turner, & Deacon Street crossed with the heavy vibe of Fatal Force and Return to Forever, complimented by Enevoldsen's nimble fingered axework (plus his multi-instrumentalist & production skills). Speaking about the new record, the future of Section A, who will release a new record this spring, and other possibilities that might bestow upon him, Enevoldsen sits down for an interview with Ytsejam.com

Tommy Hash: First off, how did this record come about - when did the idea to make the Acacia Avenue happen?

Torben Enevoldsen: "I guess the idea came to me after I had written a few songs in this somewhat softer style. I liked the direction and the idea of doing something a little bit different for a change. Growing up I was listening to bands like Boston, Toto, Journey and Van Halen, and later on Dokken, Giant, Winger and so on, so it felt very natural."

TH: Why was it that you wanted to move more into a melodic rock/AOR direction as opposed to the power metal of Section A?

TE: "It wasn’t an intentional decision at all, it just kinda happened. I dedicated most of 2008 to writing new material and I decided from the get go, that I wouldn’t let genre restrict me in any way. After I had written the first few songs and I got the idea for Acacia Avenue however, I started to work more consciously in this direction."

TH: You have so many great vocalists on the record, what was the basis for choosing them?

TE: "Well, I basically chose them because I think they’re all great singers. Some of them I already knew personally and others I got to know during the making of this album."

TH: Collaborating with guys such as Geir Rönning to write the lyrics, what was the inspiration behind some of the lyrics?

TE: "Although, I didn’t write all the lyrics myself, but the songs are pretty much all about love in one way or another. “An Illusion” for instance is about a lost love and “Digging”, which Geir Rönning wrote, is about the love of this particular style of music."

TH: You actually wrote twenty songs for the album and eleven of them ended up on the album - are there any plans to use the songs that didn't make the cut for this record elsewhere?

TE: "I think that if we do a second album, I would probably include a couple of these songs, but I don’t think that I will ever use any of the others."

TH: What about Section A - it's been years since 'Parallel Lives' came out, what going on with that band?

TE: "I just signed a deal with Lion Music on the release of our third album “Sacrifice”, and that album will be released on May 21st. Later on I hope that we will be going on the road, but there are no definite plans just yet. Also, I have written a few new songs and I expect for us to start working on our fourth album fairly soon…"
*An announcement has been made that Section A's third album, Sacrifice is scheduled to be released through Lion Music on May the 21st.

TH: Also, what about your there bands, both Fatal Force & Decoy?

TE: "Nothing is happening with neither at the moment. I would like to do a second Fatal Force album for sure, but I simply haven’t got the time at the moment. I don’t think however that there will ever be another Decoy album to be completely honest with you. That project didn’t really pan out for many different reasons."

TH: You did a solo album called 'Flying Solo' - any plans for doing another solo album in the future?

TE: "I would very much like to do another solo album and I might possibly start working on it this year."

TH: Any plans to hit the road soon with Acacia Avenue?

TE: "No, and unless the album does really, REALLY well, I don’t think that we will be going on the road at all. Everyone involved are very busy people and it will be quite a challenge to make an actual tour come together."

TH: Anything else in the pipeline musically in the works from you as far as session work or producing?

TE: "Right now I am working with a couple different bands here in Denmark, playing guitar and singing. We hope to do some live gigs later on this year. I’m also writing new material and basically just keeping my options open"
